The Municipal Library-Museum from Vila da Feira was created on 1938 February 5th and it was inaugurated in a building next to the Town Hall on 1940 January 20th, the day that the people of Santa Maria da Feira celebrates the “Festa das Fogaceiras”.In 1992 the Museum was separated from the Library and it was established in a centennial building named “Convento dos Lóios”.

With the creation of the Santa Maria da Feira Municipal Network of Museums in 2000, The Municipal Museum as the central core, acquires a new impulse and restores the name of the building, which is now known as “Convento dos Lóios” Museum.
The “Convento dos Lóios” Museum is a place dedicated to the History of the Municipality and their region and it´s mission is the safeguard and disclosure of the testimonies and memories from the past as a historical and cultural legacy to the future generations.

The “Convento dos Lóios” Museum presents a permanente exhibition dedicated to the Archaeology, History and Ethnography, that explains the origin of Man and the evolution and development of a vast administrative territory which was once known as “Terra de Santa Maria”.
Throughout the year the museum organizes several activities and exhibitions, both national and international, of obvious interest to the understanding of the European cultural diversity.
